Who We Are

WE LOVE WINE! Not just drinking it, though that part is fun too. We love creating artwork in your glass with unique blends and cutting edge techniques. Most of all, we love sharing our wines with our friends, new and old. When you walk through our door, you’re a part of the Hye Meadow Family.

Located on gorgeous property under towering oak trees, Hye Meadow Winery will make you feel right at home. Both our covered patio and our tasting room are the perfect spots to kick back, relax and enjoy a glass of wine from 100% Texas grapes. Indulge in one of our artisan cheese plates, play a round at one of our many yard games or wander over and pet our resident donkeys. Plan your visit around our annual kite festival, grape stomp, or pig roast.

If you’re looking for something a bit more intimate, be on the lookout for one of our seasonal seated paired brunches. Our staff is friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. And not just about wine - feel free to ask for dinner recommendations or the best spots for live music.

At Hye Meadow Winery, we take our wine seriously, but we also know how to have serious fun. Come on out to our little place in the Hill Country. It's Hye time you did.

Mitts - "The Winery Cat"

Meet Mitts, the latest Hye Meadow mascot! Mitts lives on the property and loves cold spaghetti. If you see Mitts running around, make sure to say hi!

Mike Batek - Grape Guru & Winemaker - "The Dude"

I grew up in South Texas, also known as Miller Lite country. It was certainly not California, Italy or a chateau in France, but I fell in love with wine and the allure of the story behind the bottle. Little did I know that wine would completely change the trajectory of my life.

A few years back, my wife Denise and I were at a career crossroads wondering what the next step should be. Through the help of our pastor and friend, Kim Edlund, we learned to let go of “shoulds” and pride, and dare to live fearlessly.

With a lot of prayer and introspection, we realized that one concept continued to emerge: a winery. Now, I believe in God but even I thought that was crazy talk. Did I know how to make wine or raise grapes? No. Did I have enough funds to invest in this dream, considering the daunting prospect of also sending three children to college? Not exactly. But, God said “trust,” so we did.

A dream without action is only a wish. So I went into action, and lo and behold, so did God. I enrolled in a viticulture program at Texas Tech to learn about growing grapes and to make contacts within the industry. At that same time, I was given the opportunity to work along side other Texas wine makers. Family and friends, excited to offer support for our new venture, allowed us to seriously lay financial plans to make the winery a reality. And, finally, the welcoming Texas wine community encouraged us to bring all these pieces together to make a whole.

I invite you out to our winery so I can introduce you to our wines. I would also love to hear the dream or story that drives you.

Mike Brown - "Jack of All Dudes" - "The Everything Dude"

My past occupations have been varied; from working on a dairy farm to working in oil refining; now working in a winery, Through the years I’ve picked up skills that “The Dude” thought would be helpful at the winery so he invited me to help out. So if it doesn’t have to do with winemaking “magic” or the selling of the great wines I take care of it. Being referred to as the “everything dude” about covers what I do and I’m enjoying every minute of it.

Dominique "Nikki" Newman - Operations Director

Hey Guys!

I'm Dominique, but you can just call me Nikki, all my friends do=)

I am into my seventh year here at Hye Meadow, and I LOVE it! I enjoy working at a place where everyone is happy to come through our door, family (employees) and friends (customers) alike. I enjoy the family atmosphere we've built here. I hope you will too!

So some things about myself....

I'm a proud mother of three, been married to the love of my life for 22 years, and as a lifelong resident of Hye, I lucked into this job almost seven years ago. I found a home away from home, where I could go from talking about my latest disaster to laughing about Justin's antics in the space of a heartbeat. I have learned so much since the beginning of my journey at Hye Meadow…

You see I didn’t come to Hye Meadow because of my love of wine, the only thing I knew about wine, was that it came in a cardboard box... But slowly as I learned and grew my knowledge, I have come to respect the crazy perfect art that is wine making. Being able to see through the eyes of our winemaker (Mike Batek, shout out to you!!!) and absorb the amount of passion and creative juices (literally…lol) I have come to appreciate beautiful wines like never before.

That’s what I’m here for…to be someone who inspires that passion and helps to encourage your love of wine. I want to help give you what Hye Meadow has given me… a place to share ideas and enjoy the people around me…a home away from home.

“Wine to me is passion. It's family and friends. It's warmth of heart and generosity of spirit.”

Justin Faulkner - Wine Club Manager

Hey Y'all! I'm Justin, I am going into my 8th year at Hye Meadow!
I grew up about 30 minutes outside of Hye in Comfort, Texas. I did not seek out a winery job, and to be honest hardly knew how to use a corkscrew when I started at Hye Meadow as an 18 year old college kid.
I have had many roles here as time has gone on including (pouring wine in the tasting room, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the cellar, and joining Denise (Mike's wife) in the torture chamber we like to call the vineyard.
Although all these different roles have been a fun learning experience, I have finally settled in as the Wine Club Manager as of last year. Overseeing the wine club has been by far the most enjoyable and eye opening experience I have had working here. I get the privilege of spending the majority of my time with members that I have known for years, build relationships with new additions to the club, and most of all enjoy the atmosphere of Hye Meadow Winery with the friends I have gained through working here!
