Joe Grubb, assistant winemaker at Hye Meadow Winery.
The grape side of Joe … He served as the Cellar Manager, Cellar Rat, Vintner Assistant and Viticulturist Assistant over the course of several years at a Texas-based production vineyard and winery. He is always eager to chat about anything related to wine. "I am committed to spending the remainder of my life working in the wine and agriculture industry. I just love growing grapes and making wine."
The fun side of Joe… "Growing up in Austin and Fredericksburg, I was exposed to a lot of great food. I have always had a green thumb; there is nothing better than bringing a garden into the kitchen. My love for food and wine really grew in college. I lived with a few guys who were really into both. When I was not climbing, we spent a lot of weekends cooking and having dinner parties with friends."
After studying Biology at The University of Texas at San Antonio, Joe became a Sponsored Pro Climber. He also worked as a Climbing Guide in the Texas Hill Country, Mexico and Colorado. Joe started a small rigging and rescue company. His team worked with BASE jumpers, aerial dance performance groups and, rigging for moving and still camera access.
Joe earned his EMS Medic certification. He worked for several fire departments in Texas and Colorado.
Joe is usually in our production building during the week but you can find him around the tasting room on Saturdays. If you want to have a serious chat about wine or rock climbing, join him on one of our production tours and barrel tastings.
